HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in December 1988.
CONDITION
The Seiko 7A series is a very popular watch, with collectors often having several different examples (some collectors have a lot more!) With a fully serviceable metal movement, with was the first quartz analogue watch to be able to show 1/10th second for the chronograph, it is also very varied in design – you can find military versions, moonphase versions – even James Bond wore one! The one we have here, 7A38-6090, has the day and date display in addition to everything the standard 7A28 has. Both calendar features can be quick set via the crown at 8, and the day can be displayed in either English or Italian – this unusual day language choice could indicate this was made exclusively for the Italian market. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The steel and gold plated case and bracelet is as good as you could hope for, with only very minor marks. The case back does have some tool marks from a previous battery change, but it also still has the original Seiko QC sticker on the case back too. The graph paper design dial is not one we have ever seen on a 7A38 before, and the solid hands are easy to read against it (this watch doesn’t feature any lume materials). The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet hasn’t been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath – this is as it arrived to us. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
