The AGS, or Auto Generating System, was later branded Seiko Kinetic but this is an earlier watch. Model reference 7M22-8A22.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1988.
CONDITION
In January 1988, Seiko launched the first watch that powered its electronic circuitry by charging itself and called this AGS. In theory you have quartz precision and reliability, and no need to change batteries, so the AGS system could be the best of both worlds. In fact no battery is fitted, instead a capacitor is charged by the swinging rotor in the back, much in the same way as an automatic watch is wound by a similar rotor. The capacitor can last ten years, but as we do not know when this was last changed we will install a brand new capacitor before sending the watch out to the new owner, so there will be a few days delay to posting this out. The counterweight on the hour hand shows an image of the oscillating weight, but you can see it for yourself via the exhibition case back. The condition of this example is excellent, and you will struggle to find a better example. The bracelet has been shortened and may not fit all wrists. You could try and find extra links on sites like SpareLinks.com, or you could opt for a leather strap instead as the lug design does allow for this.
