Revue Thommen is a company that have been making watches since 1853, and they produced this watch to celebrate the Lhotse expedition in 1988.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the case back we can accurately date this watch to 1988. We also have a copy of the advertising from the same year, picture included.
CONDITION
If you don’t know much about the Lhotse expedition then please read more about the remarkable climber that achieved this here.
The watch itself is in good overall condition. The caseback still retains the original sticker, which has now yellowed with age. The front hinged part works well, and we have replaced the chipped front glass. The dial and hands are all clean, as is the inner glass. The watch features a 24hr indicator that is designed to look like a compass. This look is enhanced by the outer bezel that turns as if to set your co-ordinates, but this watch does not contain any sort of compass. The quick set date functions perfectly and the quartz movement is perfect. The mesh bracelet may be a later addition and has been cleaned in our ultrasonic cleaner to be very comfortable and presentable – it doesn’t need any tools to adjust the bracelet length. The bracelet does have one link that is out of shape, about 10mm above the top right lug.
EDIT – since taking the photos and videos we have realigned the hands to make the 24 hour indicator line up perfectly. New photography to follow
