This mechanical, solid gold men’s Garrard watch is in outstanding condition, with the original strap looking barely worn.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Happily this is really easy – the watch has an inscription on the case back for long service, and having worked for 25 years at Ferguson Ltd Mr R. Johnson got this watch as a reward in 1988.
CONDITION
It would have been unusual to get a gold watch in 1988 as a presentation gift. Many watches of this period are more tokens, often gold plated and almost always quartz movements. But Ferguson went to the Crown jewellers Garrard for this watch, and paid for the manual wind movement and the solid gold case. The movement is signed Garrard, but was made for them by Peseux. When the watch arrived with us the crown was loose – this has been repaired now and might explain why the watch is in such good condition – you can not wear a watch that you can not set the time on. Now it is perfect, and ready to be worn. The wide, 22mm leather strap is the original one and has Garrard printed in gold foil – we have seen this before but it is normally worn away, but on this watch it is as crisp as it would have been in 1988.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
