The rarest of the Pre Bond Seamasters, this is model 396.1042 and features one of the most accurate movements Omega has ever produced.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

This model watch was launched in 1988, and from the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1988.  However it wasn’t sold until January 1990 from the matching paperwork.  Either year can be considered as a valid birth year watch.

CONDITION

Omega’s own website on this model is poor (see here), but thankfully there is a great guide to the pre Bond Omega Seamaster here that fills in all the gaps.

This example has the early Mercedes handset, and the lume on these has discoloured slightly when compared to the dial and the lume pip on the 18k gold bezel.  This early version so has the thermo compensated calibre 1441 movement inside, accurate to ten seconds a year when new.  The mid size case and bracelet appear unpolished, with a few small signs of a life on the non crown side of the case.  The stainless steel bracelet has the single divers lock and extension for going over the top of wetsuits, and this still has the 18k Omega logo insert (these can be lost.)  The original screw down crown works perfectly and smoothly, and the sapphire crystal is unmarked.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.
