HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1987.
CONDITION
There is an excellent reference guide to these watches on the Springbar website that can be found here. With over 40 different models it is good to know what is right and wrong with any prospective purchase from an independent source such as that website. Immediately you will see that this watch does not have the original bracelet. While this is a shame, it is not unusual and the choice of replacement is not too far different to some other models in the 7A28 ranges. The clasp is the correct Seiko SQ one, and the is secure but doesn’t quite sit flush with the replacement bracelet, as shown in the video and photos. You may decide to fit a different style, and as long as the replacement has 20mm straight ends it should fit. The dial has the Sports 100 lettering, which is one of the main differences between the 7A28-7040 and this 7A28-7049 that was intended for the American market. All the chronograph functions work correctly, and the pushers are not sticky. Both glass and bezel insert are good, but each show light marks, and the bi directional bezel turns with a positive click. In short this is a good, wearable 7A28-7049 at an affordable price.
