HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the accompanying guarantee paperwork we can accurately date this watch to being sold in September 1987.
CONDITION
Even if we didn’t have the sales paperwork for this Rotary we could have told you it was made circa 1987. All the clues are there – very thin case, gold plated, rectangular case, quartz on the dial – it really does tick all the boxes. The dial is good, with a striped pattern that stops the watch being plain. All the hour markers are applied, not printed. Unusually for Rotary this dial also says made in France, whereas most of their watches were Swiss. The movement is also French, an FE5120, which might explain it, as at least 60% by value of the cost of the watch must be from Switzerland if the watch is to have Swiss Made on the dial. The condition of the watch is excellent, with little negative to report. The leather strap may be a replacement as it is not stamped Rotary. The size is a men’s size of the time, but today would suit either gender.
