A very good example of the sought after Seiko 7A38 model, sometimes incorrectly called the Royal Oak due to the octagonal bezel. Model reference 7A38-6080.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1987. The paperwork that came with the watch shows a sales date of March 1989, but the salesperson did not complete the serial or model number.
CONDITION
The Seiko 7A series is a very popular watch, with collectors often having several different examples (some collectors have a lot more!) With a fully serviceable metal movement, with was the first quartz analogue watch to be able to show 1/10th second for the chronograph, it is also very varied in design – you can find military versions, moonphase versions – even James Bond wore one! The one we have here, 7A38-6080, has the day and date display in addition to everything the standard 7A28 has. Both calendar features can be quick set via the crown at 8, and the day can be displayed in either English or German. The case, bracelet and bezel are all 9/10 in condition, and the bracelet has the rare and important additional links – this is an integrated design so could not easily be swapped for a leather strap if the bracelet was too short for you. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
