HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production date stamp on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1986.
CONDITION
The Formula 1 range was the first watch launched after TAG joined Heuer in 1985, and was a huge success. Designed to take on the Swatch that was launched in 1983, it had several advantages to justify the cost (they cost three times what a Swatch did.) They were waterproof to 200m, the case back could be removed so they could be repaired, and then of course there is the history and prestige of the Heuer name and it’s long association with motorsport. The earliest watches, like this one, had a stainless steel case coated in fibreglass in varying different colours. This yellow version was one of the six available from new. The earliest watches used Ronda movements, just like fitted here, which is working well. The glass is clear of scratches and chips, and the quick set date working perfectly. The bezel shows sign of wear, as is quite common with these, but clicks positively. Unusually the bezel pip is still in place – often they are not. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The grey original rubber strap is long and somewhat faded, but has been cleaned as best as possible (tip – use a pencil eraser to clean these).
