HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in May 1986.
CONDITION
Giorgetto Giugiaro is a designer of the highest calibre. Just look at some of the cars he has designed. But he also designed some watches, including the Seiko Aliens watch (we have a similar one here) that utilises the same movement found in this watch. The Seiko 7A28 was the World’s first analogue 1/10th quartz chronograph, and the all metal construction means they are serviceable. It was so ahead of the time and robust it was also used by several different countries for military use. So the combination is mouth watering.
This model was designed specifically for cyclists. That is why the angle of the dial is offset 15 degrees – it is easier to read while holding handlebars. Also to help in reading the watch while racing the case is canted over, so the side with the two orange pushers is thicker than the opposite side – that is why the case is asymmetrical. It is also very lightweight, which every cyclist will tell you is important. Giugiaro certainly paid attention to the brief on this project. The only mark on this example is a scratch on the bezel near 12, but otherwise it is excellent. The bracelet is long and clean, with no cracks to the plastic. The case size is unusually large for the eighties, which can be more popular today. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
