HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in March 1986.
CONDITION
Accuracy with watches was critical for railways – if someone had a watch reading fast, and the next station had one reading slow, accidents could and did happen. So railroad standard pocket watches with high accuracy were developed, and Seiko won the contract for the Japanese railroad system. This is one of the later pocket watches, harnessing quartz accuracy, but the looks are very similar to pocket watches from 50 years before – clean, easy to read layout as clarity was important. This one has an inscription on the case back about the 100th anniversary of the Totsuka station being opened in Yokohama in 1887 . The string tied to the bow may be the original. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and box.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity and cleaning cloth. The box has a crack to the internal plastic.
