HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being issued in 1985.

CONDITION

CWC was set up to supplied the armed forces, and this is the watch that most people associate them with.  These are commonly known as W10 or G10 watches, but they were issued to the Army whereas watches that have the stamp 0552 on the case back were issued to the Navy, like this one.  Like all military watches this has fixed bars and the grey NATO strap is new on this watch.   The earlier watches, that command a premium, has an ESA movement and the case is thicker to accommodate this.  They are known as FatBoys, as are 13mm thick.  Slimmer movements meant the case could be also trimmed down, and in 1984 the Semi Fat case at 11.8 mm was introduced with an ETA 555.115 movement.  This is the model we have here.  In 1987 the final, slimmest case at 10.2mm was introduced.  Everything works on this watch as it should, and while the case does have a few marks it is pretty good – often these are pretty beaten up, having been worn in situations most watches would not dream of.  These cases have a hatch for changing the battery to make it as easy as possible, but if you remove the entire case back you will need a crystal press to refit it.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
