The Seiko sample watches were never intended to be sold, but to show dealers future models or potential models.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1984.
CONDITION
With SAMPLE stamped on the caseback you normally find something unusual with these watches – after all if they were regular production pieces then they wouldn’t be stamped sample! So this case back tells us this is model 0903-7009, so it should have an 0903 movement inside. But instead this has a Seiko 4436A movement in, which was a later design than the 0903. Everything is functional, but this is part of the fun with sample watches. The other good thing with them is how many survive? The day date can be quickset and the day is in English and Kanji, but the day display is sticky and will often need quick setting in the morning to the correct day. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite short and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.
