This Seiko 9020-5430 watch screams 1984, when the height of fashion was small, thin watches with black dials and gold plating.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in December 1984.

CONDITION

We have found an advert for a similar Seiko from 1984, which didn’t have the bracelet and that cost £57.99.  In the same catalogue was the newly launched Swatch watch at £11.99, so this was never a cheap item.

The rope design bracelet matches the pattern on the bezel, and is all in good condition.  The clasp is the only place that is showing any wear.  Another indicator that the watch wasn’t worn much is the oval sticker on the case back – this is applied to new watches at Seiko when they pass quality control, and this is still in place.  The case back does show a few tool marks from battery changes, but nothing serious.  The watch would have been intended to be a unisex watch, but given the shortened bracelet we would suggest you check your wrist size before ordering.  The crown has a black cabouchon stone inset, which is probably Onyx – another classic styling touch from the mid eighties.  The glass has a few small marks, but not anything that detracts from the deep black dial and polished golden hands.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and a new battery will be fitted too.

This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
