HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1984.
CONDITION
The 1980’s Omega Seamaster range was quite varied. You had tool divers watches like the 120M range, and later the ‘pre bond’ divers watches, again with the capability of being used as proper divers watches with unidirectional bezels. But you also have the Brest range, and dress watches like this one. At the time the fashion was for slim, square, quartz watches and the divers watches just wouldn’t pay the bills. This triple gold (golden bracelet, case and dial) Seamaster is gold plated to 20 Microns, and the gold plate has lasted well on the case. There are some elements of the bracelet that show more wear to the plating, but you can always wear this on a leather strap if you prefer (the inside of the case back is also marked 196.0971, which was the reference number for this watch without a bracelet). The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and has the signed clasp. The movement is Omega’s 1430 quartz with quick set date, which is all set via the signed crown. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The glass has a scratch in the bottom right corner, but the dial is excellent. The box is very tatty, as they all are of this period – a mint box would make us suspicious!
