This bi metal Omega Seamaster is a perfect example of sports watch design from 1984. Model reference 396.0943
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1984.
CONDITION
In 1984 most watches were quartz and either gold plated or bi metal. If you wanted a dress watch then a rectangular design was more normal, but sportier watches were round. Both were slim, and if a bracelet was fitted it was often integrated into the case. This sportier Omega Seamaster fits all those criteria. The gold plating has stood very well indeed, meaning it is hard to find any wear and tear on the plating at all. The links in the bracelet are definitely plated, but the bezel may be solid gold? You would just expect this exposed part to show some wear if it wear plated. The long bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and length is important with any integrated bracelet, as finding links would be very difficult. The movement is Omega’s in house 1425 calibre, with seven jewels and day date calendar that can both be quickset. The day calendar can be set to either English or Spanish, and the date doesn’t always line up perfectly with the window – easily adjusted via the quickset feature if that bothers you. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. But the steel grey dial is the part of the design that completes this watch, working superbly with the golden hands and batons. It too is in very good condition.
These mid eighties Omega watches are very hard to find in this condition. We have never seen another reference 396.0943 in the flesh before, and while words like rare are overused when it comes to vintage watches just paste Omega 396.0943 into Google Images. One watch is shown at time of writing this. One! (although our images will also appear now, doubling the known watches!)
