This super rare Heuer 2000 model was only available for 2 years, just prior to the 1985 change to TAG Heuer. Model reference 956.006
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the accompanying paperwork we can accurately date this watch to being sold in November 1984. We have also shown a copy of the 1984 brochure – this watch is so scarce that we had never even heard of them before, so had to research the model first before buying this one to make sure it was correct.
CONDITION
This was an unusual watch to introduce under the last days of independence under the control of Jack Heuer. It had 200m water resistance, but it is not a divers watch as it has a fixed bezel. It isn’t quite a dress watch either with a PVD coated bracelet, so it might have been trying to create a new category between the two design briefs. If so it failed, and when TAG came in during 1985 and the watches were rebranded this version of the 2000 was dropped. This explains why we had never seen one before.
The bracelet is long and has the original signed clasp with divers fliplock extension still fitted. There is some wear to the PVD coating, clearly shown on the photos and video, but the worst is on the inside. We have cleaned the bracelet so it is ready to wear, but you could also add a leather strap to this watch instead of a bracelet to change up the look. The dial is crisp white and excellent. All functions of the 7 jewel ETA quartz movement are working and we will fit a new battery before sending this out. The plated bezel is in fantastic condition, and due to the case design with the crown being protected we have measured the case at the smallest width – it wears a little larger than 37mm.
