HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number hallmark on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made sold assayed engraved in 19.
CONDITION
Before we talk about the watch, let’s address the myth. There is no evidence that these were ever given to Vulcan bomber crew. There are no military markings, and the Vulcan bomber was due to be decommissioned in 1984 anyway. How and why the link between this yellow dialed 7A38 variation was linked to the Vulcan is not established, but nearly 40 years on the association continues.
The one thing everyone can agree on is these were not sold in large numbers – differing reports say between 400 and 700 were sold. Many were not looked after, being a lower value watch, but now the 7A28 and 7A38 watches are highly collectible and values have increased many times. The combination of rarity and increased value has lead to some watches being frankened – made from many parts. This one is absolutely original though. We have had it verified by the leading expert in these movements, while he serviced this watch. He also owns a Vulcan model himself, and everything on this watch is correct. Being freshly serviced it is running perfectly, and the sticky pushers these sometimes suffer from is no issue here. The bracelet is the correct Z1118 model and is also full length, and it has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The dial and hands are great, but the bezel shows a few marks as does the Hardlex crystal if you look closely. Given we like the 7Axx movements, and have had many rarer models, this is the first Vulcan we have even seen in the flesh, never mind for sale. You may wit a long time to find a better one.
