This one year only model is one of the rarest 7A38 models, right up there with the highly prized Vulcan. Model reference 7A38-701A.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1983.
CONDITION
This variation of the popular 7A38 range was sold alongside the yellow Vulcan model, but this is the first one we have been able to buy. They just do not seem to come up for sale very often at all. This one is not perfect – the bezel has a few knocks, and the bracelet is a new aftermarket replacement (if you have a good Z118 Seiko bracelet for sale them please contact us!), but the hands have not faded badly. Technically these 7A38-701A models are the same as most 7A38 models – you have a split second chronograph with 1/10th counter, and day and date calendar. Both of the calendar features can be quick set, and you can choose between French and English for the day of the week. All is working well, and the pusher are not sticky (a common 7A issue). We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The difference this model has is a graph paper dial, not seen on any other 7A38 models. The dial and hands are good, and the lume even and clean. The glass is unmarked, and the case has a few marks but the worst one is a service mark engraved into the bottom right rear of the lug.
