HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1983.
CONDITION
You could spend all your watch collecting life just buying Seiko 5 models, as they are about in good numbers and with such variety in design. One of the reasons so many survive is the quality of the materials used – the case on this watch is solid stainless steel, and was designed to be water resistant. The two tone dial is very good, with gold accents that were a nod tot he fashion of the time. You have quick set date, set by pulling the crown to the first position and turning anti clockwise, and you have quick set day in both English and French, set by pushing the crown inwards. The 7009A movement is automatic wind only, so suits a more active person. The watch would likely have been originally supplied on a bracelet, but over the years this has become lost. Instead we have fitted a new leather strap, and this could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
