Manual wind watches from the early eighties are not that common, so this Avenger is quite a good budget choice. Model reference 416 5000.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The papers don’t have the model number on them, just a date of sale of October 1983 and the stamp from the selling dealer. But the movement in this watch was in production circa 1975, and the name Avenger was registered by Rotary in 1971. The styling and size is very 1983, and with nothing contradicting the sales papers we are happy to go with that date.
CONDITION
This was not a high end watch when new, and now is an excellent way of adding another watch to your collection or maybe even your first vintage watch. Inside the chromed case, behind the stainless steel caseback, is a 17 jewel manual winding FE140 movement, stamped with the winged wheel logo of Rotary. This is running well and has semi quick set date (meaning you wind the hands past midnight, back to 22.00, and then back past midnight to advance the date by one. Repeat as necessary.) The silver dial is very clean, and up close has a linen pattern to it. The acrylic crystal has no chips, cracks or deep scratches. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – the dark blue may not be everyone’s first choice, but it does look quite smart in our eyes.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box (which is quite tatty and dirty), papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
