With the nipple dial and a fully restored Oyster bracelet, this Rolex GMT Master even has some long term service history with it.  Model reference 16753.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number hallmark between the lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1983.

CONDITION

First introduced in 1955, the GMT Master is still an important model in the Rolex line up.  This watch was built in an interesting time, when you could buy a GMT Master or a GMT Master II.  The Master II gives you a clickable bezel and you can set the GMT hand independently, allowing you to track three timezones instead of two.  The original watch was a bit sleeker, and Rolex offered the customer the choice.  If you wanted a GMT Master with quick set date though you have a narrow window – the calibre 3075 movement was introduced in 1981 with the 16750 model and this has the quick set date that is so practical for collectors.  The GMT Master was replaced totally by the GMT Master II in 1988.

The dial is what is known as a nipple dial.  The lume plots are surrounds by yellow gold, raising them, and these were only found in vintage GMT Master and Submariner watches in the solid gold or bi metal models.  The dial looks original, but the hands look to have been replaced, presumably in the 2003 service we have the matching card for.  The bezel does turn, albeit stiffly, but that is better than being loose.  The aluminium bezel insert may have also been replaced at the same time as the hands.  The case is not mint – there are various marks on the case that could be polished out but we don’t do that.    The bracelet has just had a full restoration, so is as good as new.  The clasp has been replaced in the past as it has a Rolex date code for 1993, but we have the original clasp still (albeit quite worn).  The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box, a Rolex Service guarantee card from 2003, the original (worn) folding clasp, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
