Ebel’s Sport Classic range is the watch that most people will associate this Swiss manufacturer with.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the original guarantee booklet, stamped from the selling dealer and with the same serial number that appears on the watch case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in April 1983.
CONDITION
The Sport Classic was originally launched in 1977, and introduced the Wave bracelet. This supremely comfortable bracelet was both strong and elegant, and the Sport Classic line was relaunched in 2018 by Ebel as they relooked at what was their most popular watch, and realised it was a mistake to stop making it.
The watch is very thin, and to those people used to wearing a modern 14 mm thick watch this will feel like not wearing a watch at all. This example has the stick indices rather than roman numerals, against a matte grey dial. There are small signs or damage to the very edge of the dial, if you look very closely. The bezel is 18k gold, and it holds in the glass. The case is a monocoque, so the movement comes out from the front and we will fit a new battery before sending the watch out. The movement is the calibre 81, stamped Ebel, that is also used by Cartier in their quartz watches of the same period. That iconic wave bracelet is long and has a couple of spare links too, and the unique catch Ebel designed is secure. The hexagonal crown is slotted, as it should be.
This watch will be supplied with the original outer presentation box, leather type wallet to hold the watch, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
