HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Providing your watch was made before 1989, Patek Philippe will search their archives for information on your watch in return for 500CHF. This service checks the movement and case serial numbers, and they rightly demand good clear photos of the case, movement, dial and inner case back to double check the information all cross references correctly. We ordered the extract of the archives and it confirms the watch was made in 1983 and sold in February 1984.
CONDITION
All Patek Philippe watches are rare enough, but at this point in history it is both rare and unusual to have an automatic movement fitted when quartz was the technology to have. The automatic movement is Patek Philippe’s calibre 130SC, with quick set calendar and a solid 18k gold rotor. This movement is very thin, and allows a very slim case of just 6.6mm. Like everything to do with Patek Philippe it is beautifully finished. The same goes for the 18k yellow gold case, with Clous-de-Paris, or Hobnail bezel, that has been used off an on by Patek Philippe since 1934. The ivory dial also has this pattern, joining the design elements perfectly. The dial is original and hasn’t been touched at all. The leather strap is a new Patek Philippe one, fitted with the original 18k buckle. In short, you will look long and hard to find a better example.
You can buy a new Calatrava automatic with date in 18k yellow gold. It has a larger and thicker case, and comes in at £29,150. Reference 5227J
