This Tudor Prince Quartz has the Rolex Oyster case, and a wonderful blue dial. Model reference 9150 / 91500
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This watch case and bracelet has been refurbished, and the serial number normally found on the case back has been polished off (as the Tudor shield logo on the clasp nearly has too) . But the bracelet has the date stamp G, which in Rolex and Tudor terminology is for 1982. And this fits everything else we know about this model.
CONDITION
Some people believe that Rolex and Tudor never made quartz watches, but this is very inaccurate – Rolex were one of the contributors to the first Swiss quartz watch, Beta21, so helped pioneer quartz technology. By the 1980’s people didn’t want mechanical watches as much as quartz, so the Prince Quartz was a welcome addition to the range. One unusual feature the quartz watches had were original bracelets that couldn’t be swapped onto different models, due to the way the bracelet joins the case. It is therefore important to find one with a long enough bracelet. This watch has a very nice blue dial, and while it does have some marks around the date window and centre of the dial it is overall very good and original. The movement is an ETA 940.111. correctly labelled for Tudor. and it is all working well – including the quick set date the mechanical versions often didn’t have at this time. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The crown is signed with the Rolex coronet, and screws down. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and has 12 of the original 13 links so will fit most wrists.
