HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1982. There is a Japanese inscription for twenty years since Tadao Matsuoka Idea being founded on the case back.
CONDITION
The Twin Quartz movement was developed by Seiko to use in their top of the range movements. Having one quartz crystal focused on the timing, and a second adjusting for temperature, it made the movement incredibly accurate. Even today, the watch is only gaining 0.14 of a second per day. The 9441 A was one of the later developments and it added a svelte depth to allow it to be used in the slim dress watches which were the fashion. The dial colour on this example is quite unusual – a cream colour that does work well with the gold plated case. This watch cost ¥50,000 back in 1982, when a Seiko 7A28 quartz Chronograph could be bought for ¥33,000 – this is actually more in line with the King Quartz, which were around ¥45,000. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The case has a few marks, but the glass is chip free and the dial is clean. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
