Not Freddie Mercury’s actual watch, but the same Seiko Pulsemeter model he owned.  Model reference S229-5001.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in March 1982.

CONDITION

In September 2023 Sotheby’s held an estate sale for Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury, and a non working example of this specific reference complete with the red strap was offered for sale.  It fetched £35,560, despite no photos being available of Freddie Mercury wearing this watch!  That is the power of celebrity connections though.  Our highly original example does work, including the pulse sensor – however it is not as quick to respond as a modern smart watch.  You also get a chronograph with lap split times, day and date, and alarm.  The back light still works too.  It is all quite easy to operate, but the instructions are available here too.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  The signed nylon and velcro strap is very good, and although the case has faded a little it is still a great example.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, buckle and strap.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
