The 16013 reference is the watch that most people would think of when describing a classic Rolex Datejust.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number between the bottom lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1982.

CONDITION

The model 16013 is sometimes described as the pick of the bunch, which given the long history of Datejust’s is some statement.  It has the fluted 18k gold bezel, and the bi metal Rolesor jubilee bracelet.  Rolesor is Rolex’s patented mix of steel and gold, and they know what they are doing – Rolex have their own foundry in house to produce their metals.  It has the later movement with the quick set date, but the earlier date wheel with the open 6 and 9 which was faded out a few years later.  The movement is the in house 3035, and it is running well.  The original dial has been after set with ten diamonds, but this work has been done well.  The bezel does have a scratch near 6, as well as a few other marks, but the peaks are still clear and it is not unusual to see a few marks on these bezels, as 18k gold is quite a soft metal.  The bracelet is signed and has the number 62523 on the clasp and 455 on the end pieces.
