A classy manual winding Piaget ultrathin watch from a time when gold and mechanical movements were out of favour.  Model reference 9035.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1982.

CONDITION

Gold watches from the early eighties are uncommon.  It wasn’t that they were out of fashion – the styling is timeless – but it was more that they were suddenly far more expensive than they used to be.  The price of gold had increased during the 1970’s by a factor of 4.5 times, meaning few brands had enough prestige to justify the now very expensive metal.  But Piaget customers have always been very well heeled and appreciative of the quality that goes into the watches.  This watch features the in house 9P2 movement, which is a thing of beauty.  First launched in 1957, this ultra thin movement is under 2mm deep and each of the 89 individual components are finished to a very high standard – the cheapest, steel, ultra thin Piaget today would cost you £26,000!  The standards were always high at Piaget – this eighteen jewel movement was adjusted in five positions when new, which is something normally reserved for the likes of Vacheron Constantin, Audermars Piguet and Patek Philippe.  It is almost a shame that the case back is made from thick gauge 18k gold and you can’t see the movement.  The case back does have some very small dinks to the right of the serial number.  The case is unpolished, and the glass good.  The crown is slightly bent which is more obvious in the photos than in the flesh.  The crown is not signed, but the crown in the movement diagram in the Piaget book is not either.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  The original, 18k gold Piaget buckle if fitted to the new strap

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
