This 1982 Bulova Accutron never had an Accutron movement, and had one watch in mind when being designed – the Must de Cartier.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial production date code on the case back movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1982. The movement has a date code for 1981, but this could not have been a completed watch until paired with the case.
CONDITION
The Must de Cartier was a huge sales success, so it is natural that other brands copied the formula. So this Bulova has a tank shaped case, roman numerals and a polish stone set into the crown. Even the hands are the same shape. Where it differs is in the price, and that while both watches were gold plated the Cartier gold plated sterling silver as the base metal. But with Must de Cartier models regularly fetch four figures, this gives much of the same experience for a fraction of the cost. The Accutron part of the name used to refer to Bulova’s innovative tuning fork electronic movements, but by this time they were history and the Accutron part of the name is just branding. Inside the case we find a Bulova branded ETA 950.001 seven jewel quartz movement, which is working well. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, and movement.
