The Nimitz was a short production run Seamaster 120M, alongside the Calypso and Mayol models. Model reference 396.0928.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1982. But the paperwork that shows the same model number (the serial number was not completed) shows it was sold in May 1984. The paperwork arrived with the watch and we have no reason to doubt it is correct, even if the sales person didn’t complete it correctly.
CONDITION
While the name Nimitz is the commonly recognised name for this watch (and is called this in the Omega: A Journey through Time book) there is no record of why it got this moniker. The only other Nimitz we know about is a vast US Navy Aircraft carrier – so not really relevant. But the watch is quite a rare beast, and this is the first one we have been able to offer. The case is PVD coated and isn’t bad for this type of finish – there is wear and fading, but most is on the inside of the bracelet but this is better than most. The dial and hands are very good and original – the Nimitz model has these straight hands, whereas the Calpso had sword hands. The bezel is also very good, and original. It turns unidirectionally and with 60 positive clicks. The movement is the Omega 1337, a high end, all metal 17 jewel quartz with quick set date. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet went on to feature on several other watches, including the Speedmaster Teutonic MkV. and is quite long. This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers (including the calibre 1337 instruction book) and our Certificate of Authenticity.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
