NOW FITTED WITH A BRACELET
With a black and gold dial, this Seiko 5 had the right look for the eighties. Model reference 7009-876A.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1981.
CONDITION
While the colourway suits the early eighties, some things did buck the trends. For a start this is larger than most watches of the time and the case is stainless steel instead of the fashionable gold plate. The case was larger as the movement wasn’t the quartz technology that most 1981 watches used, but an automatic only calibre 7009A. However, the majority of people now are seeking larger watches in stainless cases with mechanical movements, so it’s time has come. The movement is a direct relation to the 7A26 still used today, and features a clever winding technology normally only found on IWC watches (Although Seiko do not call it a Pellaton system, and probably changed enough not to infringe the copyright). The movement has quick set for both day and date, and the day wheel is in either English or Portuguese. That is more unusual that the standard English and French or Kanji, and means every Friday is a Sex day (abbreviated from Sexta-feira of course!). The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
