HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in July 1981.
CONDITION
The Seiko 5 is a staple of watch collecting. They have been around since 1963, and whenever you see anyone on a forum or a magazine ask what is the best value for money new or vintage watch the Seiko 5 usually tops the list. Normally they are quite conservative, but the dial on this example makes it stand apart from the crowd. We have never seen this dial before, and the way it bounces light around is very special. If you look closely you will see some marks on the dial on the enlarged photos, but they are minor in real life. But this is not a one trick pony – you have the automatic only movement, Seiko’s 7009A. That also gives you quickset day and date, and the day wheel is in English and Arabic – watches for Europe tended to be English/French, and US models English/Spanish. You also get a stainless steel case, which is unpolished but only has light marks, and the original bracelet with signed clasp. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
