A men’s quartz Tissot Seastar from a time when it would have been quite cutting edge. Model reference 40312.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1980. That was the first year this movement was available in a Tissot.
CONDITION
Quartz watches had developed a lot in the ten years since they were first launched in December 1969. Battery life got better, the quartz frequency became standardised across all brands and most noticeably the movements became smaller. Concord and Omega lead the way with watches so thin that they were practically unwearable (under 1mm thick!) but the gamechanger was ETA’s development of the 555 and then the 955 series. Launched in 1979, with this movement you could have a slim, reliable Swiss jeweled movement with quick set date at an affordable price, and they were used widely by many different brands. The 955.111 fitted in this watch is branded a Tissot 3232, but that is just badge engineering. Everything is working nicely still, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The dial is very good, and visible through a scratch and chip free glass. The bracelet is long and requires no special tool to adjust, and it is signed on the clasp with the Tissot T logo (as is the crown), and it has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
