A golden dial Seiko divers watch at a great price. Model reference 7123-823H
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1980.
CONDITION
Seiko have made some excellent golden dials in the past. The most notable is the ‘Pogue’, first with the 6139 movement and later the nickname was shared with the quartz 7A28 version. Ten years ago these were cheap and plentiful, now they can be found for £1,000 such is the interest in the model. Versions with black dials are worth half. This 7123-823H divers watch is not as widely collected as the Pogue chronographs, but that makes it better value for money. The dial is best seen on the video, as the way the light bounces off is captivating. The lume looks untidy, but it is consistent with other versions we have seen so we believe it to be original. The bezel will turn in either direction, without clicking, but it is stiff. The bezel insert in red and blue is worn but original. The crown screws down and the movement has quick set day and date, with the day in English and French. We have found similar models in a Japanese catalogue from 1980, but with different dial colours. They cost the same as a Lord Quartz, so would have been upper midrange in the Seiko hierarchy. The bracelet is a new mesh item and can be adjusted without special tools. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
