Why buy a gold plated Must de Cartier for more than a solid gold Longines watch? Model reference 3966.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Having sent Longines historiques department pictures of the watch, including the serial number on the movement, they have confirmed the watch was made in 1980.
CONDITION
Why would we mention the Must de Cartier in the first sentence of selling this watch? It is highly likely that Longines saw the success of the Must de Cartier, and came up with a rival. Rather than gold plated silver like the Cartier, Longines took the lead and created this in 9k gold, despite gold being at an all time high price in 1980. The dimensions and feel are very similar to the Cartier, and with a solid gold case you don’t have to search for a watch without the plating wearing off (the Cartier’s weak spot, and if you find one with good plating they are double the price of this gold Longines!) The 5 jewel movement is a Longines L960.2, and does nothing more than tell the time. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The dial and glass are very good The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred, and we have swapped the original signed buckle to the new strap.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, and our Certificate of Authenticity.
