This Protocole has the ultrathin calibre 9P2 manual wind movement that was developed by Piaget. Model reference 91542.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1979.
CONDITION
The movement in this watch is remarkable. At just 2.15 mm thin, it is beautifully finished and still reliable – the 2mm 9P was launched in 1957, and it is still important enough to Piaget to describe it in detail on their website. The 9P2 is a little sturdier and has shock protection on the balance. Paiget still make a lot of ultra thin watches, but you will £14,000 or more to buy a new one.
This watch seems to be part of the Protocole range, and it is a discrete wrist companion. It is quite small for a men’s watch now, but still sits on a larger wrist okay and slips under a shirt cuff effortless. It could equally suit a lady. The strap is a handmade leather one, but if the colour was not to your taste we can change that We will also need to replace the strap if you have reasonably large wrists, as it is quite short. The royal blue is the same colour used on the Piaget wallet that is also included, although sadly there is no paperwork in that wallet. The case is all 18k gold, and the original buckle is too. The case is machined from a billet of gold rather than pressed from a sheet, so the precision that has gone into the movement also went into the case. The movement is working perfectly, and overall it is very hard to find fault with the watch barring very light surface scratches to the case.
