An unusual 1979 Omega Seamaster, with a highly attractive patterned dial and on a long, original bracelet.  Model reference 396.0903.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1979.  We also have a picture of similar models in the Omega book a Journey through Time, which we picture our watch next to for comparison.  The official Omega website has a model with a different dial version too here.  They call it the Classic SE, even though there is no reference on the watch to that name.

CONDITION

It is hardly surprising that Omega offered a Seamaster in the late seventies with an integrated bracelet, as that was the trend.  From the Royal Oak in 1972, being followed by the Nautilus and 222 models from the big three makers, everyone wanted an integrated bracelet.  But a word of warning for anyone wanting a watch like this – make sure the bracelet is long enough, as you can not just swap the bracelet for a longer leather strap if it is a bit short!  Happily this is nearly full length, so should fit most wrists.  The movement used is Omega’s over engineered calibre 1342, which has the ability to set the hour hand independently without stopping the precise movement.  To set the minutes and seconds you have to use the push button set into the crown, but you rarely have to do that with these as they do keep very good time indeed.  These originally used mercury batteries that are no longer available, but this example has been updated to take a modern cell.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  The dial is a criss cross hatch pattern that looks black in some lights and light grey in others, but never boring.  You also get applied Arabic numbers at 6, 9 and 12, and the condition of the dial is very good

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
