HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1979.
CONDITION
Must de Cartier tank watches like this one we had have seen a huge revival in recent years, after being dismissed as too small for a long time. This Omega is just a fraction larger in every dimension that the Cartier, and is made from stainless steel rather than gold plated silver – the biggest visual difference between the two watches. The Omega design pre dates the Cartier by a number of years, having first being launched in 1972. apart from never having to worry about the plating wearing out, the Omega has another advantage – they are about half the price of the Cartier watches. This watch is powered by Omega’s calibre 625, which we have just had a new mainspring fitted to for optimum performance. This 17 jewel manual wind movement is easy enough to get parts for, as so many were produced. The silver dial is quite clean, and the glass free from chips and bad scratches. The cabochon stone set into the crown is completely unmarked. The crocodile leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. If this watch is to be exported from the UK we will need to fit a calf leather strap to comply with CITES regulations.
