HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1979.
CONDITION
The first quartz watch was launched by Seiko on Christmas day 1969. It ran at a frequency of 8,192 hz. In the early seventies, Girard-Perregaux surprised the World and had their quartz watches running at 32,768 hz, which quickly became and remains the standard rate for almost all quartz watches. This context is important, as the 4 Mega is so called as it runs at 4,194,304 hz, or 128 more than a standard quartz watch. This enabled Citizen to obtain fantastic accuracy of +/- 5 seconds per year, which matched the Seiko Superior. There are adjustments available on the case back to fine tune the watch, but as this one is currently running at +0.07 of a second per day we have not needed to touch them! We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. You also get quick set day and date, with the day being in either English or Kanji. The bracelet is full length having a sliding clasp to allow for adjustment without the need for special tools. The dial is very clean on this example too. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp.
