HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1979, but the sales paperwork with matching serial number shows it was sold in November 1981. Either year could be considered valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
When you take the case back off this watch you can really appreciate the engineering that went into these quartz watches. Omega decided not to go the route of making the cheapest quartz movements they could, and instead tried to make the best. The calibre 1342 in this watch shows that they knew what they were doing – it has features like being able to advance the hour hand independently to the minute hand, ideal for frequent travelers crossing time zones. The theory is that this watch was so accurate you wouldn’t need to adjust the minute hand anyway, but you can adjust it if needed by pressing the button inside the crown in, holding it in for 5 seconds and release and repress. The instruction for this are included, along with the stamped guarantee. The case is all stainless steel and in quite good shape. The bracelet requires no special tools to adjust, and is full length. It has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and is not integrated into the case so you could wear this watch on a leather strap if you wish. The dial is storm grey and quite appealing, and the white hands provide a high contrast. The glass is close to perfect.
