This Seiko King Quartz uses the twin quartz movement, so is highly accurate and a step above almost all other quartz watches. Model reference 9923-7000 or QFA048.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in July 1979. But there is also an engraving for 1980, so we can say it was made in ’79 and presented in 1980.
CONDITION
The King Seiko was upper middle in Seiko’s massive different model line up in 1979. This watch would have cost ¥60,000, and you could have easily spent half of that on a Seiko Quartz watch. The twin quartz movement used in this watch though was accurate to +/- 20 seconds per year, bettered only by the versions in the Grand Quartz and the Superior watches which were +/- 10 and +/- 5 seconds per year respectively. You also get quick set day and date, which the day being in either English or Kanji. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The dial has some marks, but also has two piece hour markers – one deep, one slim – which is time consuming to make but look good now, 40+ years on. The original bracelet, part number XOB630, is full length and requires no special tool to adjust it. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. Neither case nor bracelet have been polished so will show surface scratches. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement crown, and clasp.
