This Citizen Crystron is in great condition and is still fitted to the original bracelet. Keeping great time as you would expect.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in August 1979. However there is also an inscription saying TO JOHN 1955-1980. Either year could be considered valid for a birth year watch. It is unclear if John got this Crystron watch for long service, or as a silver wedding gift maybe?
CONDITION
Founded in 1918, Citizen are older than many people think. They have been pioneers in many watch fields, but Quartz was definitely something they did well from the very start of quartz movements, and continue to do so today with the Ecodrive line.
Sadly these watches were often neglected in the 1980’s, when cheaper quartz watches made watches often disposable. But this one has survived in great condition, possibly because of the sentimental value or because it was expensive new. This watch had a retail price of Y26,000, which was about £60 in 1979 (you could buy an Omega f300 for £80 in the same year!) You can see scuffs of the clasp, and small marks on the case, to show the watch has been worn. But the rest of the watch is excellent. The dial and the glass are very clean, and the dial features the CQ logo that is repeated on the clasp, as well as the Crystron label. Many of these watches were made in gold plate, as was the fashion, and those watches are often heavily rubbed. As this watch was constructed in all stainless steel it has helped it look this good after 40+ years. The day and date are quick set via the crown, and the day wheel is in English or French.
