HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in February 1978.
CONDITION
The vast majority of mechanical Seiko watches are automatic, and most have day and date windows too. So why would you want a manual wind watch without the calendar? Firstly, the movement is thinner so the case is thinner. Secondly not everyone wants a date window on the dial, especially if you swap watches frequently. But the biggest reason this is desirable is that the auto version is automatic wind only, meaning you have to giving it a good shake before putting it on and you never quite know if it is fully wound – with this manual wind watch you can wind, set and forget and you know it will not stop if you don’t move much. The movement is calibre 63A, which shares some components with the more common 6309A automatic which helps if parts are needed in future. The 17 jewel movement is working well. The styling is very much along the Grammar of Design style that has become best known for Grand Seiko watches. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
