HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1978.
CONDITION
This watch has many things going for it. The blue dial is an obvious draw, and for some people they will no other reason to buy this watch. However the other major factor is the originality of the watch. You have the original bracelet and the original signed and sprung clasp (allowing the watch to fit perfectly even if your wrist expands during the day), and the bracelet is long enough for most wrists, thanks to a removable extension piece. The crown is also the signed original, featuring the stylised quartz logo that is also on the dial. And having a quartz watch was something to be proud of in 1978 – this watch had a price of ¥45,000, whereas an automatic day and date Seiko Actus was a third of that. On the condition we have a couple of marks – the bracelet has a scratch near where the strap joins the case, and the dial has a couple of feint marks near the edges between 12 and 3. The bezel has a scratch near 7 too. But all things considered this is still a great example. The day and date can each be independently quick set, and the day wheel can show either English or Kanji. The dial on this King Seiko watch is the real reason to add this to your collection – the way it pops in daylight is fantastic. And the white hands provide a high contrast, making it very easy to read.
