HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in January 1978. We have found the original brochure for this 4843-8110 model watch, showing a price of ¥70,000.
CONDITION
Seiko were the first to launch a quartz regulated watch in 1969, and they lead the way in developing high end quartz watches too – something they continue to do with their Grand Seiko range today. The 4843B calibre in this watch was regulated to run at +/- 10 seconds a month, which compared with a new watch meeting COSC Chronometre standards of +6/-4 seconds per day is still remarkable. Not all quartz watches are equal. This extends to the quality of materials and finish on the case, as you would expect from an expensive watch of its day. The case has not been polished, so does show some marks. The original bracelet, part XBB070, has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. It is long and has the original signed clasp GQ Both the clasp and links for this bracelet are difficult to find, and expensive to buy if you can find them, so better to get a bracelet long enough to start. The dial and hands are both excellent, as is the glass. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
