This long service award gold Longines is from a time when gold watches were really expensive. Model reference 15304.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the London hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1978.
CONDITION
When Mr Glover got this watch from Wilkinson Sword, gold prices were soaring and new technology in watches (quartz, LED, LCD) were making this conservative, manual wind watch appear quite old fashioned and it was costly gift. And Mr Glover clearly looked after this, as the condition is excellent. The dial is very clean, and a new acrylic glass shows this off to the maximum. The movement is Longines hand wound calibre 6942, which has seventeen jewels and is all working well. The case was made by DS&S and also stamped for BAUME, who were Longines UK distributor. This means the watch case was made in the UK and the movement imported, which was often done to avoid heavy import duty on completed gold watches. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
