CONDITION
Having box and papers helps to tell the story of the watch. For example, without the receipt we wouldn’t know that this watch sold for the modern equivalent of £222 according to this historic inflation calculator.
The case is gold plated and in good order, but what really indicates this watch has had an easy life is the expanding bracelet. Not only do these often show the wear the most, but they can be full of dirt after being worn for 40 years. This one shows little wear and was very clean, even before we treated it to an ultrasonic bath. Too often these types of bracelets as so dirty and difficult to clean that we throw them away. Not in this case. The FHF 96.4 manual wind movement is working well, and has an incabloc type shock protection that is why the watch is called the Accurist Shockmaster. This wasn’t new technology in 1978 and was widely used, so we don’t know why Accurist made such a point over it? The movement also features a hammered finish, typical of the time. The dial is clean and as this watch is nearly all dial this watch does wear larger than the dimensions suggest. The original box does have weak hinges and the lining could be reglued if desired, but it is still nice to happen.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
