An early Seiko C153-5009 calculator watch from the first year of production, with the original bracelet.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in May 1977.

CONDITION

The first calculator watch from Seiko used the same C153 module (that was the C153-5007), and this was hot on its heels.  Both were launched in 1977, so this is an early one.  Happily we have found a copy of the original instruction book from this site here.

The watch is very original, with the correct Z145 bracelet (which requires no special tools to adjust and should fit most wrists).  The light still works too, which is usually the first thing to fail on vintage LCD watches.  However the number 9 on the keypad doesn’t work, so this watch is sold with this known fault.  That also explains the price – the best of these watches are now all £300+.  We have not investigated this fault, so it may be something simple, but the truth is that most people that wear this watch will never use the calculator – it is fiddly and you should use a cocktail stick, or a stylus, to press the keys.  We will include a Bergeon 6436 pointer with the sale to help the new owner.  We will also fit a new battery and set the watch to the correct time zone for you so it is ready to wear.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
