HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in August 1977.
CONDITION
More and more collectors are adding a ‘good’ quartz to their collections, and in 1977 little was better than the Grand Quartz from Seiko. At treble the price of a good automatic chronograph, you were buying the almost the best accuracy Seiko could make (the ultra rare Superior models were more accurate, but cost 2.5x more than this 4840-8110 model, so were not a hot seller.) The main issue with the Grand Quartz watches of this era are the bracelets are either missing or too small for todays wrists. Happily, this watch has a long, original bracelet that even still has the signed GQ clasp. This watch also has the original signed crown, with the stylised quartz logo that also features on the clean dial. The hands are also arrow straight, and the glass is unmarked. The case has light scuff marks and some dings between the bottom lugs. The case back has had an engraving ground off. We will fit a new battery before sending this watch out.
